The Hot Lunch Program at Gabriola Elementary was initiated by a donation from the Ken Stefanson Memorial Fund 2 years ago and has the support of the Teachers, Principal and PAC of Gabriola Elementary. The Hot Lunch Program is Wednesday of each week now.
A “Farm to School” grant gave us the ability to extend our vision of the program to come full circle for the students. Students grow their own food in the school vegetable garden and the gardens located at the Commons and when harvested, becomes ingredients for the hot lunches. Students have started seeds, tended garden beds, planted, watered and harvested.
All these meals are home made from scratch and follow the school’s health guideline policies of healthy eating. When meal planning we look at what we have from the gardens and have been processing many vegetables as they ripen for future use in the program.
We always welcome parent volunteers, we need you to help on the day of hot lunch in preparation, delivery and clean up. If you are interested please contact Kenda @ 250-247-7322 or firstname.lastname@example.org
