Our mission: To establish a nurturing and challenging educational community in which everyone is encouraged to develop a love for learning and respect for themselves, others and the environment.
Gabriola Elementary is a K-7 school located on a one of the beautiful Southern Gulf Islands and is part of the Nanaimo/Ladysmith School District. We currently have 152 students in 6 divisions.
Our present school was built in 1954 and has a long and rich history. Originally built as a one room school, it has gradually expanded through-out the years.
Gabriola Elementary is a “child-centered” school in which children, teachers, parents and the community share in the joy and responsibility of the life-long process of education. The students are involved in many environmental initiatives: gardening, recycling, raising salmon and nature study. Many of our classes engage in place based learning, nature focused activities and inquiry projects. We are in the 4th year of Learning In Depth (LiD).
Our School Goal for 2015/16: To have all students meeting grade level expectations in Reading for Information (Non-Fiction), with a focus on vulnerable students.
